UK Environment Agency: Important information regarding EU ETS Registry UK Operator Holding Accounts

Important information regarding your EU ETS Union Registry UK Operator Holding Account (UK OHA), or UK Aircraft Operator Holding Account (UK AOHA)

The information below does not apply to Aircraft Operators who have been allocated to a new administering EEA State, and whose UK AOHA will be migrated by the European Commission to the part of the Union Registry administered by the National Administrator of that State. The Environment Agency has no role in this process, but we understand that those affected should be contacted by the National Administrator of the new Member State to finalise the migration of their Union Registry AOHAs.

As of 1 May 2021

Holders of UK OHAs and UK AOHAs in the Union Registry will no longer have access to these accounts or any holdings within them.

UK OHAs and UK AOHAs in the Union Registry will no longer be able to receive incoming transactions.

The Environment Agency will no longer have National Administrator access in the Union Registry to UK OHAs and UK AOHAs, and will not be able to take any action in the UK part of the Union Registry on behalf of account holders or their authorised representatives.

If you wish to transfer allowances or Kyoto Units out of a UK OHA or UK AOHA in the Union Registry, you must ensure that any outgoing transfer has been completed on or before 30 April 2021. Please factor in any transaction or trusted account delays and transaction windows (where applicable).

UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS)

If you are a participant in the UK ETS, your Regulator will instruct the UK ETS Registry Administrator to open your OHA or AOHA in the UK Emissions Trading Registry.

EU ETS allowances cannot be transferred into, or held, in the UK ETS Registry. For more information regarding the UK ETS, including with regards to access to the UK Emissions Trading Registry, please see here.
